Notes

Scope and Content:
Indian Village. In his quest for architectural variety, city founder George Merrick envisioned themed villages representing various countries. The fanciful villages would also serve as a marketing tool in the slowing real estate market of the mid-1920's. Between the years of 1925 and 1927, five architects designed 17 homes that reflected the style of Italian farmhouses, creating the Italian Village. The architects were Alfred L. Klingbeil, John and Coulton Skinner, R. F. Ware, and Robert Law Weed. The Italian Village is located on the southern side of Bird Road and is generally bounded by San Antonio Avenue, San Esteban Avenue, Monserrate Street, and Segovia Street.
