|a The Girl Scout Little House is located on the grounds of the Ruth Bryan Owen Waterway Park, 3940 Granada Boulevard. Architect Upton C. Ewing designed the 1941 building. The Little House is situated next to the waterway with a view of the Biltmore Hotel. The Coral Gables City Commission voted on April 15, 1993, to designate the Coral Gables Little House as a historic landmark. Ruth Bryan Owen (1885-1954) was the first woman from the South to be elected to Congress, between 1929-1933. She lived in Coral Gables at 644 Altara Avenue. Her father was the famed orator and Democratic presidential nominee William Jennings Bryan. Bryan was contracted by George Merrick to promote Coral Gables. |
