Notes
Scope and Content:
Of the 16 themed villages conceived by Merrick and his team, the Dutch South African village is one of only seven villages that were actually constructed. Architect Marion Sims Wyeth looked to the architectural style of 17th-century homes of the Dutch colony of South Africa. The unique parapets, use of white stucco, roof pitch, and spiral chimneys recall the architectural elements favored by Dutch farmers. Wyeth also worked with Addison Mizner in the development of Palm Beach and Boca Raton, Florida. The Dutch South African village is located between Le Jeune Road and San Vicente Street, where Maya Avenue bisects the village.
