Notes

Scope and Content:
There are two entrances to Coral Gables on Coral Way. The Western entrance intersects with Red Road, and the Eastern entrance intersects with Douglas Road, where Miracle Mile begins. In 1990, the Garden Club of Coral Gables initiated a project to complete George Merrick and Denman Fink's plan to build grand entrances as gateways into the city. The Great Depression of 1929 had put a stop to fulfilling this dream. The Coral Way entrance at Red Road, completed in 1991, includes traditional wall fountains, shallow pools, and pier-mounted lanterns. The Mediterranean style of the Coral Way entrance at Douglas Road, dedicated in 1997, includes large arched structures and pedestal fountains.
