|a Jack Finglass is the former chair of the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board and is a dedicated preservationist. He talks about the challenges of maintaining what has been preserved against the incessant pressure of developers who “flaunt” regulations pertaining to historic preservation. He talks about the current attempts to save the Deauville Hotel, whose entrance has been partially destroyed by zealous developers. He speaks frankly about the “lego boxes” of glass and steel new residences which are displacing the older, more artistically refined architecture of homes of north Miami Beach. He talks about the attempts to save the Al Capone residence, a popular tourist attraction; the Champlain Towers collapse, and sea level rise, which threatens the sustainability of Miami Beach as a city. |
