|a Raymond Jungles talks about his boyhood in Nebraska and how a love of plants as a youth and working in nurseries there and in Florida led him to study landscape architecture at the University of Florida. He discusses how he started working for private clients and then began to do public projects on Miami Beach. He tells about coming under the influence of the Brazilian artist and landscape designer, Roberto Burle Marx, with whom he collaborated in designing public space in downtown Miami. He talks extensively about his philosophy of working with nature and use of native plants, as exemplified in his work on the now iconic 1111 Lincoln Mall and the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. He is interviewed in his Coconut Grove office in a building constructed by Russell Pancoast. |
