Scope and Content:: Marian DelVecchio was a talented political cartoonist whose work appeared in The Miami Herald. In this interview she talks about her family’s narrow escape from the Holocaust in Europe and her struggles with bulimia, a mental health issue little understood in her youth. She tells her story in a book she wrote entitled HUNGER. Most of the interview talks about her cartooning career and some of the pushback from her biting satire. She explains how she always found humor in the absurd, something that helped her survive the adversities she encountered in her life. She is interviewed in front of a display of her work exhibited in the Art Deco Welcome Center. She died in June, shortly after this interview. She was 84.
