Abstract:
Jacqueline Lewis interviewed by Tabitha Rodriguez, Antonio Nunez, Alexandria (Hern?), Crystal (Brown?), and Tavaris (Debar?) at Turner Tech in Miami, Florida, on February 16, 2006. This interview is part of the Turner Tech Oral History Archive, a collection of Turner Tech students' oral history interviews that grows every year. Each year, Turner Tech students utilize their technical skills learned in the school to capture local history and honor the community's pioneer citizens. Students interview, record, transcribe and reproduce the memories of Miami residents, with a focus on civil rights. Jacqueline Lewis was born and raised in Miami, Florida. In this interview, she talks about her family background, her feelings about growing up in Miami, her (and her family's) experience with segregation in the south. Virginia Key Beach and Arthur McDuffie's incident are mentioned.
